TDD Insulates Manufacturer From Technology Problems

Concrete Block Insulating Systems, Inc. has been producing expandable polystyrene insulation inserts for the concrete block industry since 1971 and has become the most widely used block plant insulation inserts in the United States and Canada. They are obviously experts in their field. When CBIS realized it was time to update their aging technology systems, they turned to another expert… Turcotte Data & Designs. CBIS contacted TDD and outlined their technology needs they wished to have implemented by January 1st, 2007.

It was quite a task. The majority of the computers in the corporation were running Windows 98, they had no central server, and no central backup scheme, instead relying on users to back up their own data. They also had an accounting program that would shortly not work with their legacy Windows 98 computers. All this with less than three months to implement!

Jason Turcotte, President of Turcotte Data & Designs worked with Nick Nickerson, Special Projects Manager at CBIS to plan for their future technology needs which included the need for a few employees to work remotely from outside the office, including company President Jeff Nickerson and their Director of Engineering who is located in Florida.

"We brought them into the modern era by updating all their legacy computer to Windows XP Professional, put a file server in place that will allow centralized data storage and backup, and replaced their firewall/router with one that is much more secure and allows VPN (Virtual Private Network) connections so their staff can work from outside the office. We were able to do all that and completed it a full two months ahead of their deadline." said Jason Turcotte.
