Technology Spring Cleaning

Most of us are familiar with the annual “Spring Cleaning” we give our homes and offices. That first day where it is warm enough to open the windows for the first time since the Fall and “get to work” cleaning high and low.

Your computer and computer networks need that same attention, especially in your busy work environments. Computer and other technology equipment are simply machines and machines can run slow or even break down from lack of proper cleaning and maintenance.

Several times a year you should physically clean your computers, including removing the cover and cleaning out all the dust that has accumulated within the enclosure. This can be done with a can of compressed air that you can purchase from most office supply stores. You should never use a vacuum cleaner, blower or other device not approved for computer cleaning.<

This is also a good time of year to make sure your computers, servers and other devices are operating at their peak efficiency by running a series of scans and other pro-active tasks such as disk defragmentation, virus scans/updates and operating system updates. If you are not a participant in one of Turcotte Data & Designs' pro-active Technology Maintenance Plans, then this may be the first time in awhile that these tasks have been performed.

So as the days get longer and warmer, don't forget to spend a little time on the devices that make (and save) you money for your business. A little pro-active maintenance can save a lot of money.
